Tomorrow on Thursday, April 7 at 2PM ET, the Human Rights Foundation’s (HRF) Chief Strategy Officer Alex Gladstein will moderate a panel at the Bitcoin 2022 Conference in Miami, Florida with Togolese human rights defender, writer, and Oslo Freedom Forum (OFF) former speaker Farida Nabourema; North Korean defector, human rights activist, and HRF board member Yeonmi Park; and Palestinian anti-corruption advocate, Fadi Elsalameen. Together they will discuss topics such as global financial inclusion and Bitcoin as a tool for dissidents. This panel will take place on the mainstsage in front of more than 10,000 attendees, with many thousands watching from around the world.
The panel will be livestreamed at the link below.
On Friday, April 8 at 11AM ET, Alex will also host a signing of his new book, “Check Your Financial Privilege,” which explores how activists use Bitcoin and cryptocurrency to shield themselves from government abuse and financial repression everywhere from Cuba to Sudan to Afghanistan. Proceeds from the book help support HRF’s work around the world.
Throughout the conference attendees can visit HRF’s booth at the Expo Hall to learn more about the Bitcoin Development Fund. HRF launched the Bitcoin Development Fund in 2020 to support software developers who are making the Bitcoin network more private, decentralized, and resilient so that it can better serve as a financial tool for human rights activists, civil society organizations, and journalists around the world. HRF staff will be on-site conducting interviews and connecting dissidents to industry leaders.
