Meet the Changemakers Taking the Stage in Taipei

PASTOR SEUNGEUN KIM

Korean human rights activist and leader of a modern-day underground railroad

Pastor Kim is a prominent human rights advocate and the head of Caleb Mission, a Christian church based in South Korea. He serves North Korean defectors, rescuing over 1,000 since 2000 and helping them become self-sufficient. His work was showcased in the film “Beyond Utopia,” which won the Audience Award for US Documentary at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.

MALCOLM BIDALI

Migrant workers’ rights advocate

Bidali is a former migrant worker in Qatar and the co-founder of Migrant Defenders, a Kenya-based organization defending migrant worker rights in the Gulf. While in Qatar, he became a prominent anonymous whistleblower of the brutal conditions for migrant laborers in the lead-up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In May 2021, the Qatari regime placed him in solitary confinement for nearly a month on trumped-up charges.

LISA YASKO

Member of Ukrainian Parliament

Yasko is a member of Ukraine’s Parliament, the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Interparliamentary Cooperation, and the Ukrainian Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. She founded Yellow Blue Strategy, an NGO working to make Ukraine creative, safe, and sustainable.

OMAR ALSHOGRE

Director of Detainee Affairs at the Syrian Emergency Task Force

Alshogre is a Syrian public speaker and human rights advocate who endured three years of unjust imprisonment before being smuggled and brought to safety. He is now the director of Detainees Affairs for the Syrian Emergency Task Force and a spokesperson for Atrocities Tracker, advocating for the release of those unjustly detained.
