Yesterday marked the sixth anniversary of the death of Cuban pro-democracy dissident Oswaldo Payá Sardiñas. Despite the Castro regime’s perpetual smear campaign against him, Payá is internationally recognized as the most prominent Cuban activist of the last 25 years in the Communist island. Three years ago, HRF published a legal report highlighting the inaccuracies and inconsistencies of the official government investigation following Payá’s death in 2012. HRF’s report concluded that the “evidence, which was deliberately ignored, strongly suggests that the events of July 22, 2012 were not an accident, but instead the result of a car crash directly caused by agents of the state.” Read the full legal report here.
